Reese's Cups

Yesterday, I went up to the HIV clinic and shadowed a physician for a couple hours as part of my oncology/HIV-AIDS module. Turns out that most of the patients they see aren't there for issues with their HIV status--they come for other chronic diseases and issues, since the new crop of HIV/AIDS drugs are so good. I got to sit in on a shill-session by a pharm rep who was trying to push a new HIV drug. He was not as charming or as silver-tongued as I imagine drug reps to be, which was a little disappointing. Also, he didn't bring food or pens, which was even more disappointing.

Today I went to a nursing home for a couple hours to shadow a dietitian there. She's been a dietitian (though not just in a NH) for 30 years, so she's seen a lot and has great stories. One of which was how she healed a patient's Stage 4 pressure ulcer using Reese's peanut butter cups. They may not do much for your teeth, but apparently a bagful a day provides tons of protein and calories and can heal up a pressure wound like nobody's business. Her treatment method is not published, as of yet, but I will keep it in mind for the future.
