1. Also, watched a PEG placement. Very cool.
2. Watched some bedside swallows evals and two Barium swallows on pts who, unfortunately, had severe dysphagia. Cool thing to watch, not so great to follow these people afterwards.
3. Watched a 3+ hr surgical closing of an ostomy and cauterizing of diverticulitis. Whodathunkit that you fix it with lots of heat? To me, it resembled a hot glue gun.
Two patients within a couple hours last Thursday mentioned grits. Being from Md and going to school in Mass for undergrad, I felt ill-prepared to answer their questions. In the office, later, I asked my Georgian preceptor (who likes to call me "country ham") just what they were. The next morning, she was checking in with the diet office longer than usual, and she returned with the bowl of grits for me to eat. I take mine with butter, salt, and pepper now, if anyone is interested. Not bad.
Mrs. Holliday was telling me how many celebrities have homes in Asheville and will spend time there, particularly in the summer. I was secretly hoping to give a diet education to Billy Graham this summer, but no luck so far. I joked that if my preceptor called UNC to report my absences, everyone should know that I was simply short on money and giving "Star Tours" of celebrities' Asheville homes, just like they do in LA. Only, I would do it in my Prius--its more fitting with the city's culture. Anyways, I was finally not traveling this weekend, and I was in church this morning when I realized that one of the women in the choir looking REALLY familiar. I couldn't place her for half the service, and then I realized she was on some sitcom from the 70s or 80s. I have no clue of her name, but I'm certain that's where I know her from. Perhaps my luck has changed; Billy Graham, where are you? Maybe I'll get to see another celebrity soon--whose name I can actually remember.
