I saw Peg placed today. It blows my mind how quickly they are in and out and done with that sort of thing in no time. Oh and just as they were about to start a fly was flying around the room and they got a fly swatter and killed it and just left it there on the floor. Talk about a sterile environment. The doctor than proceeded to tell me about a patient that had come in to the hospital with maggots in one of his open wounds and ones that were not put there on purpose. Apparently, they used to/may still put maggots in wounds to eat out the infection. Pretty gross but kind of cool.
In the past week or so I have also seen two patients come in a day apart from each other to have a total gastrectomy for stomach cancer. The amazing thing is they have them eating normal foods a day or two after the surgery. I could not believe it. I guess I figured the stomach was pretty important turns out not so much. One of the men also has ESRD so he has complications galore and is so limited to what he can eat. Thats all for now.
