the pharmD is my friend...

(...because he's the one and only unc fan.)
Amy, if it makes you feel better, I'm right there with you! In the 2 days of clinicals I managed to have last week, I had a chance to "sneak" onto the LTAC floor. LTAC is basically a specialty hospital within a hospital. It's owned by a separate company who hires it's own staff. Anyways, by just seeing one patient, you'll cover a million different topics- can't really say they have just one primary CC. The one chart I peeked at was a new admit with resp failure, s/p CVA, DM, on a PEG, on a vent, and multiple wounds. I'm sure there's something else I left out. I didn't think I'd like seeing patients who can't speak, but I think I'm actually beginning to prefer it. Not that I don't like speaking with patients, but these LTAC cases have so much going on that you never know what to expect everyday. They've also started accepting dialysis patients again so you could practically finish all rotations without leaving the unit (well, except OB..).
There are so many people in the unit, it feels like an ED at times. Besides the physicians and nurses, they have their own SLPs, PTs, social workers, and pharmD...not to mention all the machines. Oh, and that constant suctioning sound. Looking forward to going back tomorrow...
