Is it week 4 already?
I've been keeping myself pretty busy at Cayuga Medical Center, thus far. I've been doing a ton of screening, learning my way around the electronic medical record, the paper record and the hospital. I've also spent some time attending ICU rounds, rehab rounds and diabetes education classes. I recently started doing some diet education and taking diet histories from patients. It was a little bit scary to visit the first few patients solo, but it's gotten a lot easier since then. Cayuga is in the process of adopting the Nutrition Care Plan for recording their nutrition notes. Up until this point there hasn't been much formal organization. All of the essential and relevant information is documented in their notes, but there is not a PES statement. The other three dietitians and I have been struggling a bit trying to choose diagnoses. It's been a challenge to say the least. So far the dietitians have a goal of just writing 2-3 notes according to the Nutrition Care Process each week. I think we have been doing far more than this, however. If anyone has any suggestions or an example of a patient that has been done according to the NCP from start to finish, I would greatly appreciate it :)
