Last week
I didn't have time to blog about last Friday until now, but I got to spend a day at a local dialysis center with a renal dietitian who is a former employee of CRMC. I had never been to a dialysis center before. At this one they only do hemodialysis and it is fairly new a. The dietitian that I was working with actually works for a company that owns various centers in this region and travels to four different ones to act as the dietitian on staff and works with a total of 210 patients. I was able to see her work with and interview several patients. The techs also showed me the machine and I was able to see shift changes when patients change. I was also given a tour of the back room where they make the solutions used in hemodialysis. It is pretty amazing that we can take someone's blood out of them temporarily and clean it. Anyways, it was a very interesting day, and nutrition plays such a critical role in the well-being of renal patients. There is definitely a great need for nutrition education in the population that the dialysis centers in the part of the state serve.
