The past week or so has been interesting. They pretty much just through me in the second or third day I was here and had me speaking to patients and writing my own notes.
I got to see some interesting things like an infected Jpeg (not for the faint of heart). This week I am going to get to see a barium swallow which should be really interesting. I guess the advantages to working in this hospital is all the disciplines get to know you and want to help me learn.
I got to do my first diabetes education today. The women was extremely receptive to all of the information I was giving her and was asking alot of questions. It was great to have this kind of experience as my first education because the other educations i have watched the dietitians perform really seemed pointless to the patients. They listened but oftentimes when followed up were found to not follow the diet at all. Compliance seems to be a really big issue here.
I also went to the cardiac rehab center and got to work with patients and PT. The program they put these rehab patients on is extensive and many of them continue to comeback to the wellness center even after their mandatory 12 week class is over. Although there are a few who continue to tell me about their daily breakfast routine of going to Bojangles and are shocked when I tell them I have never been.
That's it for now. Hope everyone is doing well!
