So, I haven't actually started doing any clinical work at Durham Regional because of some issues that have come up. Instead, I've started working on a project for my supervisor (who is more on the management side of things- think Mr. Mojica). They are extremely short-staffed so she's trying to get approval to hire another dietitian. However, from what I've been hearing, the hospital hasn't been taking her seriously until now. So, I've been calculating the number of patients the dietitians have been seeing since last year in order to prove that the numbers have been going up, as well as the number of high risk cases.
Other than that, I've really had no orientation to the hospital at all. There are only 5 dietitians, but I've been interacting more with the food service workers. I think I started at a bad time because the state surveyors apparently dropped in for a surprise visit the day before I started. So, that's all everyone is stressing about until tomorrow.
On a side note, I've already heard a few things about being from UNC. But I think I'll save my comments about *coughnationalchampionscough* until I know everyone a little better.
We'll see what happens next week!
