I am loving my internship at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca. It is a small hospital (less than 200 beds). There are only two full time dietitians and one part-time dietitian. The dietitian that I spend the most time with, Deb, is really great and laid-back (which I love). So far I have spent the bulk of my time learning to use the computer charting system. The physicians, nurses and dietitians use both paper and Meditech to chart. The dietitians do not use PES statements, but are trying to chart using this system more. I have been helping them with the transition.
I have been involved with a lot of different experiences so far this week. I attended a Diabetes Education class, a swing bed patient meeting, a "tumor board" conference and grand rounds in ICU.
In my spare time I have been enjoying Ithaca's running trails and eating a lot of meals at Wegmanssss (the best grocery store, hands down) and already have an extensive list of restaurants to revisit while I'm here. Can't wait to stuff my face!
