Hello Again everyone,
I can't believe the first week is already over. The past few days I've been shadowing Cindy, an R.D. on the 6am-2:30pm shift, which hasn't been bad, actually. She says she's more productive when she comes in early and never has a problem finding pt charts, etc. While I don't have formal rotations, this week we spent the majority of our time in the CVT (Cardiovascular and Thoracic) ICU and surgical units.
Tuesday was officially the first day all the R.D.'s began moving to electronic charting. Before then, they used the SOAP method for making notes, but the new electronic system requires them to write PES statements, which they're not too crazy about. Fortunately, I've been able to help out some with the transition since I'm much more familiar with PES statements than the SOAP method, but this has slowed my progress in writing up notes myself.
I did help write up a TPN formula yesterday, but I was heavily assisted by Cindy! She walked me through the protocol, right up to scanning the note to the pharmacy for processing. It's unbelievable to me how naturally the R.D. staff breeze through these TPN orders...I guess that's what experience does for you! She sent me off for the weekend with a folder full of resources to read over on TF and PN, and the mutivitamin and electrolyte concentrations in supplements given in MRH.
Have a great weekend guys!
